I missed the chance
To see my lavender bloom this year
That purple that causes me to smile
Its calm blanket resting on my chest
Whispering quiet words up my neck
And around my ear

But along side a government building
In downtown Tucson
There were three tufts
In a bare sidewalk garden
Acting like persistent hair
On a balding head
Refusing to let go or look good

I tried to get it’s smell on my hand
But it was already gone
All that was left was the purple
The soft voice repeating

“Nature, reality, home, love…
I am today’s reminder of all these things
Leave your details aside for a moment
And remember what is important
And that which makes you happy
Now be on your way, but take me with you;
I’ll keep you quiet inside.”
