Some blogs have picked up the story&#8230; a more detailed post can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/stevegilliard.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/if-you-think-things-couldnt-get-worse.html\">Steve Gilliard&#8217;s The News Blog.<\/a><br \/>\nI hope that proper coverage begins soon.<\/p>\n<p>Eighth grader Anthony Soltero shot himself through the head<br \/>\non Thursday, March 30, after the assistant principal at De<br \/>\nAnza Middle School told him that he was going to prison for<br \/>\nthree years because of his involvement as an organizer of<br \/>\nthe April 28 school walk-outs to protest the anti-immigrant<br \/>\nlegislation in Washington. The vice principal also forbade<br \/>\nAnthony from attending graduation activities and threatened<br \/>\nto fine his mother for Anthonys truancy and participation in<br \/>\nthe student protests.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony was learning about the importance of civic duties and<br \/>\nrights in his eighth grade class. Ironically, he died because<br \/>\nthe vice principal at his school threatened him for speaking<br \/>\nout and exercising those rights, Ms. Corales said today. I<br \/>\nwant to speak out to other parents, whose children are<br \/>\nattending the continuing protests this week. We have to let<br \/>\nthe schools know that they cant punish our children for<br \/>\nexercising their rights.<\/p>\n<p>Anthonys death is likely the first fatality arising from<br \/>\nthe protests against the immigration legislation being<br \/>\nconsidered in Washington, D.C. Anthony, who was a very<br \/>\ngood student at De Anza Middle School in the Ontario-<br \/>\nMontclair School District, believed in justice and was<br \/>\npassionate about the immigration issue. He is survived<br \/>\nby his mother, Louise Corales, his father, a younger<br \/>\nsister, and a baby brother.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Corales will speak to the community after mass on Sunday,<br \/>\nApril 9, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.<br \/>\nShe will ask for a prayer for Anthony, whose funeral and<br \/>\nburial are scheduled for Monday, April 10 in Long Beach,<br \/>\nwhere he was born.<\/p>\n<p>CONTACT: R.
