For the many years that the 52nd St. location was there, you could almost be sure to find him behind the counter on weeknights. Between his knowing EVERYONE, his guitar repair and his casual, warm nature, he was often a first stop in mid-town; before, Ray&#8217;s, before Gray&#8217;s, before the hotel sometimes. He sure did like the night time and the night life but was one of those constants that you suspected would be there even if all of the rest of it faded away<br \/>\nSIR 52nd is no more; he kinda floated around in SIR-land for a while as 52 was his spot. I met him in 1990 when I took a job driving for Roadshow and did a bobtail run to Florida with Hall and Oates. Mell was one of the guitar techs; our friendship began there. The many decades of reheasal with Paul Simon in the big room (the sound stage) cemented it. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\" style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">   I&#8217;ll miss you Mell, your friendship, your laugh and your beautiful face. You were one of a kind.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\" style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">Anyone who knew Mell, take a moment tonight to think of how lucky we were to know him.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\" \/><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\" style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">UPDATE:<span style=\"color: #000000\"> In an early address book, I had a different last name for my friend; turned out it was his real name and the other was an easier Americanized one&#8230; his name was <\/span><\/font> <font size=\"3\" face=\"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\" color=\"#ffffff\" style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman\">Mell Papaterpou.<br \/>\n<\/font><font size=\"3\" style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><br \/>\nThis comes from from the New York office of SIR&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman\"><font size=\"3\">Services for Mell will be held:<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman\"><p><font size=\"3\"> On Sunday afternoon March 5th 2PM to 5PM<br \/>\nand 7PM to 9PM at<br \/>\nPeter R.
