Leaving the city

Where the underground stars neither twinkle or warm

To the North

To an old home and the past

It took a while for the trees to change

From the ground cover for a train track

To the cathedrals of my youth

Add time and the tress grow high

Add money and they leave on a truck

Replaced by less than innocent dirt roads

That change perspective and tear away

The pine fence that gave the courage to

Skinny dip in my father's pool

Just as a handful of old books

Reminded me of feelings and persons forgotten

The watering ban of dreams was lifted

And was left this morning with the warmth

Of an intimate moment with my wife

And the pleasant feeling of a chance meeting

Where mature and older, people got the respect

They always deserved from me.
