Perhaps it's the fact that I have recently re-discovered on of my all time favorite albums, Genesis' “Seconds Out” or my happiness that I am rarely a keyboard tech, but this link from Music Thing is a mind blower. The Mellotron was a very high tech keyboard of its time, using magnetic tape strips that were engaged when you pressed the keys. Samples of various instruments and the mechanical anomalies of its design created a very recognizable sound, especially the choir sound. Think “Knights In White Satin” or “Watcher of the Skies“…
