We made it from Texas to California seemingly in a flash, with a quick stop in Phoenix where MK’s bike got to go home. It’s a neat trick considering he wasn’t in town that day but it meant I got to see the lovely Shannon who brought sugary gifts for roadies. Yum!

We just touched a bit of what is now summertime heat in the south and arrived in San Diego looking for our hoodies. The gigs on the water there are beautiful but the acoustic instruments don’t seem to dig it as much as the humans. LA meant running around getting things fixed rather than seeing friends and family and I’d like to thank Bob Dixon from Amphole and Lisa Gass from Los Angeles Bass Works for making the time to help me out. The show went well and we began our trek north.

The Santa Barbara Bowl has been revamped again and is really starting to look like a real venue as far as production is concerned. The access widened and a real grid roof installed, we got to be the first act to do a show up there. It has always been a wonderful place to see a show; now it’s becoming a better place to do a show.

The second Greek in a week has had a slight change too; in Berkeley they removed the wicked pole to help with truck access and provide a snub nose cab to make the turn. As far as the roof and the wings are concerned, it’s the same old place with a touch of Hearst booty hanging on the wall to feel the age…

Strange to actually be a bit cold during the show but with July and August ahead, I’m sure I’ll look back on the food, the hands and the temp fondly next month.

Today was spent at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art where I fed my soul and went gaga over a few pieces from the permanent collection… I liked the building and their presentations too…

Tomorrow we downside for the day, doing a mountain winery with one truck. I’ve seen this movie before and you just have to take it for what it is. Most crews used to buy out the wine cellar in the old days up there, 24 cases for a long drive across the country. This was before recycling.

We’ll head north this week and then have a holiday break before we fly to Europe for a few months…
