The Tour de France is a remarkable sporting event; Google Earth is really cool. Now you can follow the routes of the TDF using Google Earth and get a sense of the land. Check out the mountain stages (try 17) and you'll probably feel tired looking at it. Google Earth requires a application download and is cross platform. The TDF site is in 4 languages. Try using the tilt tool to get down into the course.
