Yesterday and today we have been in London doing a theatre show and a television taping. Sleep in this current schedule is not an option; luckily for us the old fuel of coffee and spite seems to be getting us through. Once we clear Paris tomorrow we should have an opportunity to catch up on our sleep.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Dan Lee.
Yesterday we worked at the Hammersmith Odeon/Apollo/whatever. For me it has only been since last year since I've graced the narrow hallowed halls of this fine music/comedy venue. For the client it has been 31 years and a lot of larger places. The building actially has a neat live stage with a thrust which gives a performer the chance to "work the apron"; and work he did. The band and the crowd were ready for some magic moments and the energy was miles deeper than the previous show in Manchester. On the conclusion of the main part of the show, the band left the stage and the crow continued to sing the song without them until they returned to finish another chorus or two. Gotta love them go getter crowds.

Another early call today and a load in into a former church now a music performance and education center, St. Lukes . It's a rather remarkable facility with the main body of the church a modernized peformance space with wood floors, acoustic treatments and modern lighting and mechanical windowshades. Downstairs they have offices, a cafe, dressing rooms, a computer music lab and a gamalan room which I saw a group of teenage girls learning how to play.

It's a BBC television recording we are doing tonight; once again the worlds of music and TV collide. This place is a tough fit for us with all our cases outside the building. You hope nothing goes wrong because it will be a while before you can get to your spare gear...

I'm crammed in a corner where people are already telling me to turn off my lights and appear invisable. I have just changed into my cloak of invisablity. I'd say bitter things about sharing space but... well, maybe I will. sometimes you bend over backwards to make the whole scheme work and people take advantage of you. I hate being the guy who is unflexable and tunnel visioned about a joint day like this, but when you end up tuning guitars on the edge of a cliff with grown men running into you over and over and over again, it just plain don't make it. I have to admit, I boned myself by where I chose to set up but the amplification of that fact is beginning to bother me. At least we're under a strict time constraint to get out of here, that will make it special...

In the end, there was a few audibles, a coupla retakes and a fast and furious load out to beat the curfew... I stepped off the back of the truck at 10:56 pm, with four minutes to spare. We escaped the scene of the scene. A very early 3:45 am wake up for a 4:30 departure left us checked in at 5:40 am for a 7:20 am flight to Paris... plenty of time!
Today is filled with French coffee, lotsa room we can and can not use and the promise of a new day without a show to do tomorrow... hey, can we see the picture of Dan Lee Sleeping again?
