We let some folks in tonight and the result was positive to me; the energy went up markedly and there were some wonderful performances. This is a big ship to turn fast in tight quarters; she handled beautifully. The crowd was observant and clearly listening to the show like first time listeners... which they should have and were. I was curious how they would react; I knew there were some haters in the bunch as the one thing you can be sure of in this world is people living in the past. You'd think that if you went back as far as some if these tunes (16th, 18th century) they'd feel at home.
You don't have to like anything you don't want to. You can listen for yourself and decide. Herbert Spencer once said a really insightful thing that helps me when I begin to assume and pre-judge...

"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt prior to investigation."

Well, it's the same with every group and perhaps every thing that people feel passionate about and share with others. The people who stay up late to flame on forums probably have no one at home that will listen to a word they say.

I'm proud of what these guys are doing. It's not everybody's cup of chai. To have the courage to do what you want and put so much effort into it is a gift. Most of the world is paralyzed by the fear of trying something different or unpopular. You may think that only people of privilage and money can do this, but it's not true. It certainly doesn't hurt but there are plenty of people who stick to their guns or just outright ask for a new hand of cards all the time. It's a treat when you can enjoy the work that is being done on your job. I just wanted to be able to say that here and now
