My very first pro tour was a trip to Japan with jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour. We did a week at a jazz festival in the Japanese Alps branded the Newport Jazz Festival in Madarao with BB King, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard and others. The next week was spent doing a double bill throughout Japan with BB King, sometimes sharing the same bus with him and his band. These are very fine memories for me. He used to tour as many as 300 shows a year; as he has gotten older, he's finally cutting back a bit. He just announced today that he will no longer tour overseas. I'm glad I got the chance to do that with him.
