It's been a fast few days. We loaded into the Howard Stern
Show at 4am monday in New York, got the boys up and running and then
got out of the way by 5:45 so they could start their show. We set the
drums and amps up right in Howard's room... close quarters.
The band came back around 8:15 and then did Beverly
Hills and Hash Pipe. I thought that Howard's interview was really good
and Rivers and the guys were on the money as well. Even when Howard
wandered into the more embarassing questions, Rivers was clear and
honest. Others who heard the interview felt it was one of the best that
both of the guys had done.
We packed up, headed to the airport and flew to LA.
It's cold and rainy here and if you know LA, rain creates various
problems, both actual and imaginary. We finally made it to the valley
and got checked into the Bev, toted the gear up to our rooms and then wondered about life. I then stole the crew van and went to Poquito Mas,
a roadie's best Mexican friend and that helped the fact that we had
received word the call for the video the next day was 7:45 am. Yuck.
Raining, driving a 15 passenger van on the 101 to
downtown... the glamour, the glamour abounds...the band is doing
a video for their song "Perfect Situation" which features a young lady
who is famous with the kids and is being shot in an old theatre
downtown. It's not the same one that I worked in on the Spinal Tap IBM commercial,
but there are so many old wonderful theatres in downtown areas all
across the country that have been left behind in various states of
neglect.
Video (and film) require a different kind of
patience and focus. The days are long and work occurs in short, idiotic
bursts. You never really see what you're working towards until it's
been edited and aired. I am not the kind of person who would be able to
do this on a regular basis.
This should consume the bands time until tomorrow night and Thursday we are on the Leno show. We sure are learning how to fill those gaps in the tour schedule!
