Today we're doing a show at the Worcester Centrum, an
older arena in Eastern Mass. I have a history that goes back to 1984
with this fine building. I came here then on the guest list for The
Cars "Heartbeat City" tour. It seemed so big then; the production, the
guest list itself (300 people!), the songs... it's a fond memory of a
time and a band who was really hot at the time. Little did I know that
some of the guys on the crew of that tour would become co-workers and
friends someday in the 21st century.
I also was here in 1991 during the Easter weekend
with Paul Simon's "Born At The Right Time" tour in which what I thought
was an idiotic idea (do a show in Worcester, load out, do a show in
Providence, return to Worcester for another show... little did I know
how loopy show schedules would become). As I was waking up this
morning, the memory of a short video clip we took of Michael Brecker
behind the wheel of a Peterbuilt endorsing the fine truck. It was
hysterical. That tour was the birth of some amazing lifelong
friendships, including Michael. If I haven't banged on you all enough,
please remember about Michael's health problems and to register at
Marrow.org...
The rains have been steady since last Saturday and
the east coast from DC to Maine is pretty saturated. Hopefully they
will get a bit of a break as it's causing problems everywhere... we
passed some nasty accidents last night on the way from Jersey.
In the next couple of days, I'm hoping to hook up
with some podcasters both here and in NYC; it's getting to be that they
are everywhere and that's really cool.
