It seems appropriate I'd find this site right after returning from Brazil, but this is a spot for the premier players of the Pandeiro. The Panderio is what most of the rest of the world would call a simple tamborine but in the hands of a panderio master, it takes on the characteristics of a drum set. Usually played with one hand holding it and moving it and the other hitting the head, it is both a support instrument and a solo feature one.
I was researching Marcos Suzano after Rodrigo shared an album he did in 1993 where he had the room to shine, Lenine & Suzano - Olho de Peixe.
The site is called Panderio.com and includes some information about the greats of this deceptively difficult drum. I highly recommend watching the Quicktime videos of some of these guys doing their thing. For someone to make one single headed drum into an entire universe takes such skill, like the great frame drummers, conga drummers and panderio drummers continue to do each day.

Hour 25 of travel day...

All luggage and gear for group left in Mexico City between planes... it was tight but according to the airline it was a clerical error in that the date for our last leg was labeled for the next day on the baggage tags...so they just held them. Following the rules...

All without personal luggage, band and crew.

All fly gear to be forward ASAP (good, we load into Kimmel at 10:30am)

Feel less than fresh.

Strangely not bitter...
