Just a quick update on the band front; we taped a performance for The
Late Show with David Letterman, which if you've never done TV before
requires about 12 hours of your time to capture a three minute song. As
Weezer have been there before and I have a few old friends who work at
the Sullivan Theater, it was a pretty matter of fact work day. Things
happen slow (and not because of the frozen nature of the place...Dave
insists on it being 48 degrees F in there at all times!)
It was Labor Day and one of the Letterman crew's
traditions is to BBQ lunch on holidays. Over the years it has evolved
into an event with big money sponsors (if you get your logo in the
footage for even a second, it's worth thousands in free advertising.)
There was an epic stickball game on 53rd Street and the Weber people
had a pork skin tossing compitition which had prizes and a groovy
trophy...

As for the performance of "Beverly Hills", the guys did a great job; RC
was wearing some wild orange jacket/shirt that made him look like the
captain of an extreme motocross team.
Here's Scott's #3 bass, "Punk Rock", a '65 Precision, last seen planted
into the stage in Chicago at Lollapallooza, now fixed and ready for
action, parked in front of Letterman's window...

I got an e-mail from Michael Brecker
today who's just been in for another round of chemo; he's hanging in
there, doing the footwork and fighting as we all know he would.
If you're still in the giving mood, remember to get tested, get registered
and help him and others who can benefit from bone marrow or stem cell
treatment. If you missed the original post, let me help you down the page...
Don't be a dick; helping others is a great way to get out of your own
self-obsessed insanity and better the planet in the only way you can...
by doing something positive.

This one has popped up again... we as touring professionals can do this
small thing and help out those who don't have even the simplest
items... though there is nothing we can do to help Geraldo. Read on...
As some of you know when I was
on tour I encouraged roadies and band members alike to collect the
shampoos, lotion, soaps, coffee, sugar etc from the hotel rooms that
they stayed in. Every couple of weeks (supplies added up quick!)
I would donate to a homeless shelter or a womens and childrens rescue
shelter.
Obviously now we have a new
crisis. Here in Texas we have taken in over 200,000
evacuees. Many of them are in Austin (The Music Capital of the
World). We here in Austin are trying to collect donations for the
future. In a few weeks the supplies will certainly dry up and
people will still be in need.
So I am asking once again for
all the touring and travelling people to collect the amenities in the
hotels and collectively send them to us in Texas for us to
distribute. I'm sure the production manager or production
assistant on your tour will help to collect it all and get it sent
out. We kept a box in the bay of the bus that everyone could drop
their donations into. On one tour I had 6 people who regularly
donated. After 2-3 weeks I had a 50 lb box of supplies!
We have people in desperate need and any help is appreciated. Donations can be sent to:

If you remember, please put a note in the box so we know what tour the supplies came from.
Please foward this email to as many touring people you know. Let's get lots of supplies for our fellow Americans.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Sooooo.... grab your soap, shampoo and lotion from every room.
Production managers or assistants, grab a box we can put it all in
after a day off, leave it with a simple sign on it outside of
production or catering. Maybe some rich backline guy could come up with
the postage when the box is full... or if this is too complicated you
can go to Red Cross. org or PayPal and make a cash donation...
