News today that NewsCorp has bought Intermix for $580 Million, the home of Myspace.com. Why should this be on Bitterman? Well, this year bands have been streaming their new albums before release to 1) test the waters and 2) give the kids a little something. They allegedly have the 5th most page views on the internet and have some cred with the kids.
Murdoch has his fingers in a lot of pies and pleasantly goes from ever -so-slightly-right-leaning Fox News to FX's Nip/Tuck, The Shield and Rescue Me without blinking as long as they turn a profit. Blogging, Social Networking and Podcasting are new ways of communicating which means that they are also ways to advertise and Make Money. When the big boys come in they either screw it up or blow the vibe... I don't know, maybe it's that part of me that loves knowing about something before the housewife in Omaha... when things become popular and homogenized, I usually bum out a bit... I'm still an off the beaten path kinda guy.
