Mark Cuban, Mavs owner, indie film supporter and long post blogger, has weighed in on podcasting; he thinks (as I do) that there's not a lot of way to make money off this format. I read this yesterday and felt he was one of the first guys who has openly said what I've been thinking all along. Podcasting may be in general too long tail for a butt load of money to be made. Sure, the most popular shows will be able to reach a larger audience but would Gold Bond sink money into Bitterman Circle? I never thought so and continue to feel that way. Perhaps with things like the Amazon links on your page you can subsidise your server costs, etc, but I have never thought that podcasting was going to be a viable career change. I don't want to advertise in my podcasts and never want this to become a job. That's when I'll just walk away. This will run it's course. I enjoy this so much today and would hate to have to answer to someone at a company to create content when I don't want to.
