The boys have finished with their
preparations for the tour this afternoon and the trucks are loaded and
heading north for show #1. I can tell you that the new stuff sounds
great and hearing the band playing the old stuff after three years,
it's better than ever. Look forward to some great shows. I was to stay in LA until the crew rolled on Sunday,
but there are things at home that need my attention. It's been an
exausting, non-stop week even without all the tour prep madness going
on. Our darling boy Sterling, a 21 year old (no typo) Norwegian Forest
cat, is having some medical complications and not doing very well.
Angela has been with him since her college days and though I'm the new
guy, I've known him for seven years. He is one of the most remarkable
beings on this earth and feel so fortunate to have spent so much time
with him. I truly hope that this trip is not to say goodbye to
him, but I can't take the chance. We've been through so much this week
that this situation has just kicked us all over the edge a bit. You
have to decide what is important to you; I still get the whole
job/life/living thing screwed up sometimes. I think that becomes a
handy asset to my employers in that so many good crew guys are somewhat
co-dependant. I want to support my wife, celebrate Sterling's life
and try to get my balance back before I start this long set of runs
away from home. One of my greatest fears is being realized; how to deal
with losing the boy while I'm away from home. He is such a bit part of
the family (he'll tell you the biggest), has us trained pretty well and
has had an incredible run to this point. I hate seeing him suffer and
wish him comfort and peace.
I know those of you who have had older animals know the quandry of
holding on and letting go. I guess I'll see when I get there.
