Alexander Payne's Sideways wins
five Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica this afternoon... not a
surprise, but Paul Giamatti breaks the awards jinx by taking best lead
actor. It's nice to see a subtle, human movie get recognized. Payne's
acceptance speech for winning best director shared a hope that the
attention this movie gets will lead to film makers and financiers
taking a chance to make movies that are human in nature. (AP)
Also, Best Documentary went to Metallica: Some Kind of Monster which was directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky...
