...job fun
It has been
illuminating to go on this job search recently. I knew it wasn't any
fun, but never realized what "normal" people have to do in order to
make $8 an hour. I was presented with a 60 question survey which asked
me my favorite drugs (about 20 times) how important it was to defend
myself with my fists (at least 15) and what dollar amount for job
related theft was acceptable when you boss was unfair to you...and if
you ever raised a fist to him.
The way I've been employed for nearly 20 years has
been personal referrals, either previous bosses or guys with the same
gig who were busy and needed a sub who wouldn't trash their reputation.
Sometimes you come in blind with what passes as a resume and have to
kinda sell yourself, more like what the white and blue collar folks
have to do. I've been doing this for so long, they are asking to test
me to see if there is any way the test scores will cover fort my lack
of experience in the workplace! If you were to stumble into someone who
had already made the transition from the road to the regular workforce,
they would have another way to test your ability; the common experience
and common cohorts.
I even went during recruiting hours at a large
business and found all they do is sit you in front of a PC that sends
you to the same website you can access from your home! I have always
felt that I have lived a blessed life; you never really know until you
see the possibility of living a different one.
